The West Chester Area Senior Center (WCASC) thanks everyone for their generous contributions of time, effort, and resources, which enable us to provide critical programs and services for the health and well-being of seniors. Thanks to you, the WCASC has received various designations and awards:  

  • Earned the top-level “4-star rating” from Charity Navigator, the world’s largest Nonprofit Evaluator;
  • Awarded the Candid Gold Seal;
  • Designated a “Top-Rated Nonprofit” by Great Nonprofits for the 6th year in a row;
  • Named a Nextdoor “Neighborhood Fave” at the 530 E. Union Street location and both Second Reading Bookstores

 

Other Fast Facts Include:

  • 49th year of community service as a 501(c)(3) organization serving the Borough of West Chester and surrounding townships.
  • $.85 of every $1 donated is spent directly on services to our seniors.
  • About 150,000+ meals are served annually.
    • Daily breakfast & lunch: 85% of seniors attending share breakfast and/or lunch at the Center.
    • The weekly “Corner Cabinet” Food Distribution Program, accomplished through the on-site food pantry, serves on average 400+ seniors a month.
  • Exercise Classes for all levels.
  • Health & Wellness Programs (Nutrition, Healthy Weight Loss, Fall Prevention, Parkinson’s Support Group, Flu Shots, etc.).
  • Information & assistance with programs that benefit seniors, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
  • Free income tax preparation.
  • Social Clubs, including Current Events, Book Club, Languages and Quilting.
  • Computer education and computer lab.
  • The Center derives almost 85% of its funding from private sources, our local community, and the dedicated service of hundreds of individuals.
  • A distinctive funding source is derived from the proceeds of the Center’s two “Second Reading Bookstores,” second-hand bookstores in West Chester (32 N. Church Street in the Borough of West Chester) & 929 S. High Street in the Parkway Shopping Center) staffed primarily by senior volunteers.
  • Partnerships with many community organizations and educational institutions enhance the services provided to seniors (Chester County Department of Aging, Chester County Food Bank, AARP, United Way of Chester County, West Chester, Villanova & Immaculata Universities, etc.).
  • Hundreds of volunteers and a small staff.
  • Annual revenues include 15% Government and 4% United Way Funding.
